2006 Hellenic Tennis Championships

The 2006 Hellenic Tennis Championship is set to be the biggest event yet for the Hellenic Tennis Association thanks to the great support of its sponsors and the Hellenic Tennis Community with the event scheduled for Saturday 30th September - Monday 2nd October 2006 at Cintra Park Tennis Centre.

Thomas Hotels continues its wonderful sponsorship of the tournament for the third successive year as the tournament goes from strength to strength. Once again with Cintra Park the venue for the tournament, a festival of tennis action is expected across the three days

The 2006 Hellenic Tennis Championships have events open to all interested tennis players with special events aside for players of Hellenic descent with the Philippoussis Cup as the pinnacle event for open men. Named after recently victorious tennis star, Mark Philippoussis lends his support stating that “By supporting the Hellenic Australian Tennis Championships I hope to encourage talented Greek Australians playing for the ‘Mark Philippoussis Cup’ to reach their potential and to showcase their talents to the sporting world. It’s a great initiative to promote the game of tennis in Australia and is an opportunity to bring together Greeks from all over Australia”

The Hellenic Tennis Association which was established in 2003 has continued to provide many tennis opportunities for the Hellenic community with the showpiece event being the Hellenic Tennis Championships. Along with this is regular organised social tennis, entry of a team into the Tennis NSW State League and for the first time this year entry of junior teams into the Metropolitan Hardcourt Interdistrict Competition.

Highlighting it’s commitment to fostering junior talent and providing tennis opportunities, teams into the Interdistrict competition have been entered in the 12 and under, 14 and under and 16 and under age groups with early results looking promising. The Hellenic Tennis Association hopes to increase the number of juniors playing tennis and assisting by providing a structure and pathway for the fostering of junior development.
