Hellenic Tennis History

The first Greek Australian Open tournament was organised by Mr Steve Micos. He devised an idea of running this event to promote the game of tennis to the Greek Australian community. Mr Micos’ plans were to run an annual event for players of Greek origin followed by a presentation evening at the conclusion of the tournament.

1st Greek Australian Open tennis tournament - 1986

2nd Place - Dean Toparis
3rd Place - Michael Kypreos
4th Place - John Skalkos

2nd Greek Australian Open tennis tournament - 1988

Location - Marrickville Hardcourt Tennis Centre
The results were as follows:
1st Place - George Vrahnos
2nd Place - Steve Kostakis
3rd Place - Dean Toparis
4th Place - Peter Theodore

3rd Greek Australian Open tennis tournament - 1989

Location - Eastern Suburbs Tennis Centre
The results were as follows:
1st Place - George Vrahnos
2nd Place - Peter Theodore
3rd Place - Michael Kypreos
4th Place - Peter Rhoditis

4th Greek Australian Open tennis tournament - 1997

Location - Hurlstone Park Tennis Centre
The results were as follows:
1st Place - Kosta Yiannakopoulos
2nd Place - George Vrahnos
3rd Place - Michael Kypreos
4th Place - Ross Anton

5th Greek Australian Open tennis tournament - 1998

Location - Hurlstone Park Tennis Centre
The results were as follows:
1st Place - Kosta Yiannakopoulos
2nd Place - Peter Horozakis
3rd Place - Steve Hatzis & Dimitri Savvides (No playoff for 3rd & 4th place played)
